Brooke Laing is an immigration attorney and advocate dedicated to serving immigrant communities with compassion, tenacity, and an unwavering commitment to human dignity.
A North Carolina native who grew up alongside immigrant communities, Brooke developed a deep passion for advocacy, particularly for those navigating complex and often unforgiving legal systems. Her legal career spans human rights litigation, immigration law, and community advocacy.
At the Herischi Human Rights Law Center, she worked alongside Iranian and Kurdish immigrant communities, pursuing justice for victims of the Iranian regime under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act. As a Fellow at GW Law's Civil & Human Rights Clinic, she led a team addressing violations of international humanitarian law during the Tigray–Ethiopia conflict, assisted clients advocating before the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights, and worked on a team advising the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights on weapons trafficking in Central America.
Prior to opening her own practice, Brooke served as a staff attorney at a ViaLegal Immigration, a nonprofit organization, where she independently managed a full caseload and built and led the firm's asylum practice. Her immigration practice encompasses asylum, naturalization, adjustment of status, humanitarian parole, family-based petitions, humanitarian visas, Special Immigrant Juvenile Visas(SIJ), powers of attorney, and EOIR Motions practice.
Brooke is equally committed to the work that happens in the community. She has led Know Your Rights presentations, advised as part of Clinics, and developed lasting relationships with partner organizations across North Carolina.
At the heart of Brooke's practice is a foundational conviction: no human being is illegal.
She approaches every case with the belief that each client deserves to be met with humanity and dignity, and with the determination to fight for them.
